Blood Compact Site

My most recent travel to date was at the Visayan provinces of Bohol and Cebu. Jeff booked our flight to Cebu for 6 days not knowing that there isn’t much to do there, so I decided to add in Bohol for our tour which is just 2 1/2 hours away from Cebu through a ferry.

How to go there

Our plan was to take the ferry from Cebu pier to Tagbilaran pier to get to Bohol. We wanted to take the 12:30pm schedule of SuperCat Fast Ferries. We arrived at Cebu’s Mactan Island airport at 11:30 am, which means we only have an hour to get ourselves to the pier.

We quickly went to the metered taxi section at the airport, and asked our driver to take us to the pier. After only 30 minutes, we made it there only to find out that it was the wrong pier. It was there we discovered that SuperCat is at Pier 4. We walked for around 10 minutes until we got to SuperCat’s ticketing office and terminal, we were just on time for the 12:30 sched.

We arrived in Bohol at 2:15 pm, the ferry ride duration is just fit to the in-house movie ‘The Fast and the Furious’.

At the terminal Pier, flocks of van and taxi drivers offered us a tour. At first i wanted to just get a public transportation to tagbilaran blood compact site but there isn’t one available at the airport. I completely forgot the tip I about taking a car and not a van, so we took a van instead, Jeff wasn’t complaining with the rates offered to us so I went for it anyways. The regular rate of rent a car in Bohol is between P1800 to P2000.

We got Kuya Lito’s rent-a-van service slash tour for 2K consisting of seven tourist spots. We arrived too late to catch two of the seven spots so we negotiated the other places we could add to the tour.

We grabbed a to-go meal at Jollibee before moving on with the tour. We passed by Tagbilaran Cathedral and quickly took pictures while Kuya Lito started his historical tour to us.

The church is located at the heart of Tagbilaran, near the capitol and in front of the city plaza. It’s patron saint is Saint Joseph the worker, and was built in the 1700s.

A statue of Saint Joseph is the first decoration you’ll see on it’s front. Today, most of the architecture of the church has been renovated, or is new, except for the bell tower which can be clearly seen from the outside with the bell tower’s different paint tone from the church.

The fiesta for Saint Joseph occurs every May 1st.

Blood Compact site

After our quick stop at Tagbilaran Cathedral, we head off to our first official tour in the city, the blood compact site. I wanted to get rid of this place in our itinerary, since I dont find it a tad interesting, but since it’s on the way, we went to see this bronze statue anyways. Kuya Lito gave us a history of what the blood compact is:

The blood compact site was the place where Spanish’s Legazpi and Boholano Datu Sikatuna had a blood compact to end their war in Bohol. Today that event is celebrated in Bohol as a festival, occuring every June of the year. The festival is locally known as ‘Sandugo’ meaning Blood compact. :P
