On February 28, 2010. Second day of our visit to the Panagbenga festival. Jeff and I were able to catch the float parade on the streets.
The event started at 8 am, but by 9, the good spots were already taken, while some people started getting on parked cars, and vans so they can get a peek of the parade.
We eventually found a good elevated spot, and thanks to Jeff’s 20x zoom camera, we we’re able to identify whoever was on the floats, which included celebrities like Jenny Miller, Karylle, a bunch of teenage stars I dont know the name of, and Valerie Concepcion.
In between the floats, there were bands and performers occasionally performing while the float parade was on halt.
There’s also a trend with the design of the flower floats that I noticed. Some floats features a giant flower-filled globe, mostly from floats sponsored by communications company.
The most impressive float in terms of technical detail, was from Efficascent Oil’s flower float, which features a three headed lion, which electronically moves from side to side, with matching sound effects. Though the float was lacking the ‘flower-filled’ part, it definitely gave us audience the ‘wow’ effect.
After the float parade, we went to the Athletic bowl again. The floats were displayed there so people can get a close look at the floats.
We were able to see SM’s impressive 2010 inspired float, featuring a giant tiger.
While some float were extravagant, there were also the simpler ones, like this one from Coca Cola.
and GMA 7.
After the event, Jeff and I went to catch a taxi at Burnham park. There were lots of politician’s in the festival, which we were able to catch, like Sen. Loren Legarda, Bong-bong Marcos, Satur Ocampo, and the guy with the hard-hat! (Shameless plug, I’m gonna vote for him, and I kind-of took it by heart, when he told me ‘Mangapanya tayo’) haha. What a day, I got to get a picture with my idol
